Interview explores the infrastructure, partnerships and practical delivery solutions needed to connect Guyana’s natural gas resources with power generation, industry and communities.
GEORGETOWN, GUYANA — September 14, 2026 — James Hulse, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of UniGas, recently joined host Michella Abraham-Ali on Energy Perspectives for a timely discussion titled, “Guyana’s Energy Delivered: Building Infrastructure for a Domestic Natural Gas Market.”
The conversation focused on a critical next step in Guyana’s energy development: building the midstream and downstream infrastructure required to move natural gas from its available supply to the customers and communities that can use it.
Hulse outlined UniGas’s vision for an integrated domestic gas-distribution platform capable of supporting power generation, industrial development, transportation and other commercial applications. He also discussed the potential role of modular compressed natural gas or “virtual pipeline” systems in serving customers while permanent infrastructure is developed where technically and commercially appropriate.
Unlike a conventional pipeline, a virtual pipeline can compress natural gas and transport it using specialized equipment to power plants, industrial facilities and other demand centres. This approach can allow infrastructure to be deployed in stages and expanded as customer demand, supply arrangements and project requirements are confirmed.
The interview also examined the broader considerations involved in developing a domestic natural gas market, including engineering, safety, financing, commercial agreements, regulatory coordination and cooperation between public- and private-sector stakeholders.
For UniGas, the opportunity extends beyond infrastructure. Establishing a sustainable domestic gas industry can create meaningful pathways for Guyanese workers, engineers, technicians, drivers, contractors and suppliers to participate in the country’s evolving energy economy.
UniGas is currently advancing development, engineering and commercial engagement for its proposed privately capitalized gas-distribution platform. Construction and operations remain subject to final agreements, financing, technical work and all required regulatory approvals.
