Clear information. Verifiable progress. Accountability to Guyana.
UniGas believes the public should be able to understand what we are developing, how it is funded, what government support is being requested, what has and has not been agreed, and how Guyanese people and businesses can participate.

Key funding fact
No public funds are being used to capitalize the UniGas project. The project is being developed and capitalized with private funding. The Government of Guyana is not an equity investor or capital provider in UniGas.
Project facts at a glance
The essential facts about who UniGas is, how the project is funded and where it stands today.
Company
UniGas is the trade name used by Unified Gas, Inc., a company incorporated in Guyana.
Purpose
To develop safe, reliable infrastructure and services that connect natural gas and LPG supply with power, industrial, commercial and community demand in Guyana.
Funding
Privately capitalized. No public funds are being used to capitalize the project.
Government concession
The only concession being requested from the Government is an exclusive licence to develop and operate the applicable gas distribution and transfer network, subject to agreed regulatory and performance requirements.
Current stage
Development, engineering, commercial engagement and regulatory coordination. Construction and operations will begin only after required agreements, approvals, financing and technical work are completed.
Initial delivery model
A proposed modular or 'virtual pipeline' system that can transport compressed natural gas by specialized equipment while permanent infrastructure is developed where commercially and technically appropriate.
Public accountability
Project status, public documents, local participation opportunities and material corrections will be maintained on UniGas.gy.
What UniGas is developing
UniGas is developing a privately funded gas distribution platform for Guyana. The platform is intended to receive, handle, transport and deliver natural gas and LPG safely and reliably to customers that can benefit from lower-emission domestic energy alternatives.
The initial concept uses modular infrastructure, including specialized CNG transportation and associated loading, unloading, pressure-management, metering and safety systems. This approach can connect customers before a permanent pipeline reaches every location and can expand in stages as demand is confirmed.
Final routes, facilities, equipment specifications, customer volumes and schedules remain subject to engineering, commercial agreements, financing, land access where required, permits and regulatory approvals.
What UniGas is not
- UniGas is not the upstream producer of Guyana’s natural gas.
- UniGas is not the Government's Gas-to-Energy power plant project.
- UniGas is not being capitalized with taxpayer funds.
- A UniGas MoU is not the same as a final supply contract, construction notice or guarantee of revenue.
- A requested licence is not a waiver of safety, environmental, commercial or regulatory obligations.
Private funding and public-sector role
How the project is capitalized, and what role public institutions do and do not play.
Private capital and risk
UniGas will bear the responsibility for raising the private capital required to develop its project and for managing construction and operating risk. The company expects to earn revenue only by investing in infrastructure and providing contracted gas handling, transportation, distribution and related services.
Public-sector role
No public funds are being used to capitalize UniGas. Government agencies will continue to perform their normal public functions, including considering licences and permits, developing or applying rules, protecting public safety and the environment, and overseeing matters that fall within their legal authority.
Future commercial arrangements
Any future gas-supply, land-access, customer-offtake or other commercial arrangement involving a public entity would be documented separately and should not be described as a contribution of public capital to UniGas unless its actual terms say otherwise.
Why UniGas is requesting an exclusive licence
What the request is for — and, just as importantly, what it would not provide.
UniGas is requesting an exclusive licence because Guyana's downstream gas-distribution industry is being established and requires significant, long-term infrastructure investment.Private capital cannot be committed responsibly to build an integrated network if uncoordinated participants can duplicate only the most profitable portions of the system while leaving the original developer responsible for the broader infrastructure, safety and service obligations.
A single, accountable framework during the industry's formation can also support consistent rules for engineering, equipment, gas quality, metering, emergency response, pricing transparency, data reporting and customer protection. A fragmented market without common standards could create inconsistent safety practices, duplicated investment, opaque pricing, selective service and opportunities for abuse.
What the requested licence would not provide
- Public equity or taxpayer capital for UniGas.
- A guarantee that UniGas will recover its investment or earn a profit.
- Exemption from applicable permits, environmental requirements, safety rules or regulatory oversight.
- Automatic customer contracts or guaranteed sales volumes.
- The right to make unsupported public claims about savings, emissions or timelines.
Exclusivity must carry obligations
UniGas does not believe exclusivity should mean freedom from oversight. We support clear licence conditions covering investment, service, safety, reporting, pricing oversight, compliance and consequences for material non-performance.
